Michael Neill – The Advanced Course 2020
We’ll be exploring three brand new themes as part of our three week deep dive into the inside-out understanding:
Week One: The Original Point
After an event some years ago, I was approached by an “old-timer” who had spent many years studying with Syd Banks directly back in the day. She kindly but conspiratorially asked me if I was open to a bit of feedback. What she then whispered in my ear has changed the way I think about and teach the principles to this day:
“There are a lot of very well-meaning people teaching a lot of wonderful things that really are helpful,” she said. “But it’s not what Syd was up to.”
In our first week together we’ll do our best to go back to what I see as the original “point” of the principles – that is, the direction to which they are pointing. By seeing through the illusion of our Thought-created realities, we get see through to the deepest part of ourselves – our divine, impersonal nature. This is the world of spirit where, to paraphrase Syd, “We are not God, but God we are.”
Week Two: The Space Before Thought
There has been a huge resurgence in the past decade or so in the fields of both meditation and mindfulness. This is because when people are able to even temporarily quiet their insecure thinking and overactive imaginations, they gain immediate access to inner wisdom, common sense, and a deep and abiding sense of peace and well-being.
But what if all of these benefits were available to us right now, without practicing anything ancient or learning anything new?
During our second week together, we’ll look to what it actually takes to quiet our own minds and rest more in the infinite space before thought – the place that Syd and spiritual teachers throughout the ages called “home”.
Week Three: Keeping it Real

There’s a deeper feeling that comes with looking in the direction of these principles – a kind of inner awareness I imagine as being similar to a wire somehow becoming conscious of the electricity running through it. People love this feeling, and once they’ve touched it and associated it with learning about the principles, they often want to learn even more. But because the principles themselves are so basic and our intellects love complexity, those of us who teach about them in the world have a tendency to speak as much or more about the implications of a principles-based understanding of life as we do about the principles themselves. And yet, the more we get into the implications of living in a Mind, Consciousness, and Thought-created reality, the further away we seem to get from the very feeling which drew us into the conversation in the first place.
In our final week together, we’ll dive in to the world of deeper feelings that draws people into and back to this conversation on a regular basis with the deliberate intention of “keeping it real” – living from the best and deepest place inside us on a day to day basis regardless of whether or not we can ever explain it to ourselves or anybody else.
Here’s how it works:
We’ll meet by video conference for an hour each day, Monday to Friday, at 8am pacific/11am eastern/4pm UK. I’ll get us started with a few “insight catalysts” and then we’ll dive in to our exploration, sharing what we see and don’t see with the intention of seeing more deeply and bringing both lightness and depth to our exploration.
By the end of the three weeks, you’ll be seeing the Three Principles in action everywhere, and instead of studying the implications in theory you’ll have the opportunity to experience them at play in your daily life.
All sessions will be recorded and the audio will be available for streaming or download. We’ll also have an exclusive Facebook group for participants that will open up on the 29th of June.
