Stefan Molyneux – Putting off Procrastination
I’m venturing in to the world of (psycho) philosophers lately and my latest discovery is , host of the Freedomain Radio. He is a man both loved and demonized for his liberal opinions. Reason why I invited him to speak at the upcoming in Amsterdam this April. A little controversy, never killed no party.
In this video Stefan explains why you procrastinate and how to stop. It seems like the more we connect online, the more productive we get. It was never easier to launch new ideas and start new businesses but at the same time our attention span decreases to the size of a fly. There’s so much going on that simply finishing your tasks is more challenging than ever.
I think everyone should have 30 minutes to watch a guy tell a great story but I’ll give you a short abstract as well (you scratch & win mentality people!):
Spoiler alert
Stefan’s opinion is that we suffer from procrastination because as children we are treaded as slaves. Children are not often consulted about their opinion or being asked for feedback. At home and at school children are being told what to do, this is just the way parenting works. But the thing is: We don’t really shake off this ‘trauma’ when we grow up. Every to-do today can still feel like an order that we passive aggressively want to resist. Procrastination is not natural, it’s a scar tissue. So what we need to do is: Stop ordering ourselves around and really choose for the things we want to do. We need to stop externalizing our have-to’s and focus on why we ‘want’ to do the things we ‘need’ to do.
