Trent Brown, MOT, OTR/L, BCG, is a practicing therapist in Utah and is 1 of 24 credential holders of a board certification in gerontology (BCG) from the AOTA. Trent has worked in transitional rehab, acute care, skilled nursing, and home health over the course of his career. His master’s thesis, “Performance of ADL’s, functional activity, mobility, and confidence levels following total hip arthroplasty”, was the launching pad for his future clinical focus and passion. Trent has centered his practice on research, exercise, and activity to promote safety and outcomes during functional mobility and activity with adult and geriatric populations.
Trent served as vice president of the Utah Occupational Therapy Association (UOTA), where he helped co-author the new Utah Occupational Therapy Practice Act. He has received APTA approval as a certified continuing education presenter, teaches at the University of Utah as an adjunct professor and was recently the requested keynote speaker at the annual UOTA conference. Ms. Kalkstein is the owner/president of Fortify Your Frame, Inc., a personal training business. Her practice consists of balance and fall prevention, fall recovery, and improving strength and endurance of aging adults. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Exercise and Sports Science from the University of Texas at Arlington, and an Associate of Applied Science in Physical Therapy Assisting from Broward Community College. Ms. Kalkstein offers SilverSneaker FLEX Indoor Balance and Strength classes.
As an experienced physical therapist assistant and personal trainer, Ms. Kalkstein offers a comprehensive and unique understanding of the aging adult and offers an effective exercise program that will strengthen and support the spine as well as the whole body to help increase and maintain functional abilities. About Your Speaker
Ralph Dehner, COTA, CPT, is the director and program coordinator of the Mighty Vine Wellness Club, a nonprofit wellness center serving the mental health community. As a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) and a Certified Personal Trainer (CPT), his clinical experience includes rehabilitation and injury prevention through behavior modification, exercise, work simplification, and functional activity. Mr. Dehner started studying internal martial arts in the early 1970s and is a Certified Master/Trainer for Dr. Paul Lam’s Tai Chi for health programs in the USA. In addition, he is certified as an instructor for such courses as Tai Chi for Arthritis and Fall Prevention, Tai Chi for Diabetes, Tai Chi for Osteoporosis, Tai Chi for Back Pain, and Tai Chi for Balance. Mr. Dehner has taught both Qi Gong and Tai Chi in hospitals, cancer centers, nursing homes, senior centers, integrative medicine centers, and mental health facilities.
