Sita Devi is a yogini, kirtan artist and ecstatic dance facilitator in service to the divine. Sita feels the divine channel so deeply and intensely through Bhakti Yoga, she has chosen to make it her life’s purpose. She holds a BFA in dance from the University of California Santa Barbara, and performed professionally with Method Dance and Ledges and Bones Dance Project in Los Angeles. Sita registered with the Yoga Alliance for 500 hours and has been teaching yoga for 10 years. When she completed her 500 training Sita began teaching at Bhakti Yoga Shala, in Santa Monica, California where she developed her skills as a teacher and kirtan leader under the guidance of her beloved teacher and friend Govind Das. Her gypsy nature took her on tour teaching at yoga festivals and conferences all over the globe. Sita currently teaches weekly vinyasa and yin yoga classes and hosts a weekly community kirtan at Yoga Tree in Berkeley California. Sita is the co-founder and co-producer of the Ecstatic Dance Retreat on the Big Island of Hawaii. As a Kirtan Walli, Sita sings and plays harmonium, guitar, kartals and mrdanga and has performed live with Jai Uttal, Donna DeLory, Arjun Baba, Jaya Lakshimi and Ananda, Dave Stringer, Govindas and Radha, Prema Hara, Joey Lugassey, C.C. White, Saul David Raye, Steve Ross and Craig Kohland of Shamans Dream.
Sita has performed and taught at – San Francisco Yoga Journal Conference, Esalen Yoga Festival, Nantucket Yoga Festival, Lightning in a Bottle, Wanderlust, Symbiosis, Gaia, Pranafest, Bhaktifest, Shaktifest, Lucidity, Beloved, Earthdance, Yoga Rocks the Park, Color Festival, Sonic Bloom, V Elements, Enchanted Forest, Hawaii Spirit Festival and Mystic Island Festival. Sita collaborates with Janet Stone accompanying her in Teacher Trainings, Retreats and weekly classes. In this collaboration, she offers live chanting in classes and some workshops and kirtans with the groups. She has also accompanied yoga classes for Shiva Rea, Baron Bapiste, Saul David Raye, Sianna Sherman, Ashley Turner, Eion Finn, Annie Carpenter, Micheline Berry, Elena Brower, William Duprey, Govindas and Julie Mitchell.
She intends to share this heart opening practice with everyone, making it easily accessible. It is her dream and goal to make Bhakti, devotional service, something that anyone can do, without limitation, expectation, discrimination or judgement. Sita’s devotional service is intended to include all beings in experiencing divine love and light.
